6/6/08 – Toy Eaters Studio – Jersey City, NJ

I didn’t even realize this until my friend Jeff pointed it out, but as of June 1st, I’ve been living in Jersey City for a full year. (The memories! The parking tickets! The Kennedy Fried Chicken!) So for me, Spiraling’s first gig in JC last Friday had something of a birthday party feel to it. I’ve been fortunate to meet so many friendly and interesting people here over the last year, and it was really gratifying to see everyone brave the heat and pack Toy Eaters to hear us.

Special thanks to the lovely and talented Melissa Surach for graciously adding us to the bill for her JC Fridays show. Melissa hosts a bi-monthly (that means every two weeks, right?) music and comedy show in JC – though it’s currently on hiatus for the summer, you should definitely check it out once it resumes in September.

Also, thanks to our hosts at Toy Eaters for being so accommodating, and Norm for providing the spacey lighting. For those of you who weren’t there, it kinda looked like this.

Extra special thanks to our friend Raj Sharma for filling in on drums on short notice, and dong a bang-up job. Raj is the drummer and vocalist for an NJ group called Como Drive – they just finished their latest record, which sounds excellent, so make you check it out once it’s released.

SPIRALING FUN FACT: Want to know why it’s called Toy Eaters? It’s a funny story, which I don’t know.

SET LIST: The Future / The Concept… / You Might Say / The Girl on Top (of the piano) / Are You Here / Victory Kiss
