5/18/08 – Asbury Park, NJ – CD Release Show

Playing the Stone Pony brings back a lot of great memories for me; we’ve played some of our biggest and best shows here, and now I can add last Sunday’s Time Travel Made Easy release show to that list. The amount of support and enthusiasm we felt in that room was really overwhelming; thanks to everyone who came out and made so much noise for everybody listening on The Hawk 105.7 FM. (Maybe all the lights and exertion were making me hallucinate, but did I see people throwing their sets up during “Victory Kiss”? Because if so, that’s pretty gansta.)

We have so many people to thank for making the show such a great success. As always, the Pony’s sound and light crew did a crackerjack job getting us set up, and our good friend Dennis did a great job helming the soundboard (and drove down from CT to boot – you rule, Dennis!). Special thanks go out to Aly, Jeff, and Chloe for handling crowd control at the merch table. (Speaking of the merch table, this show marked not only the official debut of Time Travel Made Easy, but also of our new merch toy, the French mistress. We’ve been scratching our heads trying to figure out why this thing is called a French mistress; some have offered their hypotheses, most of which are not printable here. If anybody knows the real explanation, could you please clue me in? Because it’s starting to bother me.) Of course, thanks to April Smith and A Love Like Pi for playing such great sets and being so pro.

I saw a lot of flashes going off during the show – if you took some pics or video, please contact me at martyok@gmail.com. We’ll be posting some of our own video clips soon. Here are a few from Jill Hughes from USA Progressive music:

SPIRALING FUN FACT: That thing in my right hand in the photo above is called an Ebow. Here’s the technical description of how it works: I turn it on, put it over the pickups, and sound comes out. That thing in my left hand? That’s a guitar.
